Crosscorrelogram Migration of Free-Surface Multiples in CDP Data

چکیده

Free-surface multiples can be considered to be signal and migrated by the crosscorrelogram migration method (Schuster and Rickett, 2000; Sheng, 2000). By merging the Kirchhoff and crosscorrelogram migration images, the true reflectors can be reinforced and the artifacts can be attenuated. For simple flat layered models direct multiplication of the Kirchhoff and crosscorrelogram migration images gives a good migration image of the reflectivity; however, for some complex models such the SEG/EAGE salt model the product image needs to be improved. A new merging scheme suggested by Yi Luo is used and an improved result is obtained. A Mobil’s marine data set was migrated using crosscorrelogram migration and the result shows that the artifacts due to the water-bottom multiples are attenuated but the improvement is not obvious. Progress Report on Crosscorrelogram Migration of Free-Surface Multiples in RVSP Data

According to Schuster and Rickett (2000), a shot gather of crosscorrelograms is partly equivalent to a shot gather of seismic traces, and the reflectivity distribution can be imaged by migrating free-surface multiples in the crosscorrelograms without knowing the source positions. Here, synthetic data and Exxon’s Friendswood data are used to test the feasibility of migrating free-surface multipl...

Interferometric Multiple Migration of Union Pacific Data

Drill-bit seismic data can provide valuable information about reflector characteristics and prediction ahead of the drill bit. In this paper, I apply the interferometric migration method, which both includes crosscorrelogram and autocorrelogram migration, to Union Pacific Resources Corporation (UPRC) drill-bit data. Here, the data are recorded on the earth’s free surface while a tri-cone drill-...

3D wave-equation interferometric migration of VSP multiples

For VSP data, interferometric migration of free-surface multiples has two significant advantages over standard VSP migration: 1). a significantly larger imaging area than that of conventional migration of VSP primaries, and 2). less sensitivity to velocity and static errors than conventional migration of VSP multiples. In this report we validate these claims by applying wave-equation interferom...

Interferometric Seismic Imaging

Claerbout’s daylight imaging concept is generalized to the general theory of interferometric seismic imaging (II). Interferometric seismic imaging is defined to be any algorithm that inverts crosscorrelated seismic data for the reflectivity or source distribution. As examples, we show that II can be used to image reflectivity distributions by migrating ghost reflections in passive seismic data,...

Multiple attenuation in VSP multiple imaging and primary imaging

Imaging of downgoing first-order free-surface multiples (ghosts) with VSP data can provide a subsurface image with wider coverage, better vertical resolution, and higher-fold than conventional imaging of VSP primary reflections. A problem with VSP downgoing first-order multiple (ghost) imaging is the interference from downgoing high-order multiples, similar to the interference from multiples wh...
